Respect in Sport - Parent Program

*** Parents that have taken the Respect in Sport - Parent program in a prior year DO NOT have to take the program again ***

One parent / guardian from each family must take the Respect in Sport Parent (RIS) Program from Hockey Canada if you have children playing hockey. This is a zero-tolerance policy and no exceptions will be granted.  If you have a second child new to hockey, you do not need to take the program again, the new child must be added to your existing profile (Please ensure Springfield Minor Hockey is selected as your association).

**The SMHA deadline for parents to complete the RIS Parent Program for the 2022-23 season October 26 2022, no exceptions**

Any players' family that have not completed the Respect in Sport (RIS) Parent Program by the above date will not be able to participate in any team activities, on or off ice (dry land training, practices or games).  Please check the website under SMHA documents for a list of families with outstanding RIS – Parent requirements (website now updated).

The respect in sport parent program can be accessed from our website.  The cost of the program is $12 and is comprised of approximately 1 hour of video training that can be taken over multiple sessions.

Please note that all teams bench staff (Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Managers and Safety Person) are required to take Respect In Sport – For Activity Leaders.  This program is different and requires separate certification from the RIS – Parent.  Please refer to the Hockey Manitoba website for further information on RIS - For Activity Leaders ( https://www.hockeymanitoba.ca/coaches/respect-in-sport/ )

HISTORY

The Respect in Sport Parent Program was mandated by Hockey Manitoba in January 2015 as a condition of participation for all players across Manitoba. The motion passed by Hockey Manitoba is as follows:

"Certification of this online educational course for parents must be obtained by at least one parent or legal guardian of any minor hockey player on a Hockey Manitoba roster. Should certification not be obtained the minor hockey player will be ineligible to participate in any hockey Manitoba sanctioned activity until one parent or legal guardian is certified"

Respect In Sport Parent Program was mandatory in Manitoba for the 2015-16 hockey season.  Many provinces have instituted this program as a mandatory condition of participation.
